RCMP say a 14-year-old boy was killed over the weekend in an ATV accident in the southern Cariboo.
Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says Mounties were called at 2:20 p.m. on Friday to an accident on Tatton Station Road, west of Highway 97. Saunderson says the 14-year-old was in a crash along a trail on Crown land when he was riding with a group of peers.
The boy was taken to hospital and Saunderson says efforts to revive him were not successful.
In a news release issued this morning at about 10:30 a.m., Saunderson says RCMP have now cleared the scene where the crash happened. It has now been said what exactly caused the crash.
The family of the victim has been supported by 100 Mile House RCMP and victim services. The victim was a student of Peter Skene Ogden Secondary, and police have set up victim services for friends who have been affected.
“All members and staff of the 100 Mile House RCMP offer condolences to family and friends as they move forward from this tragic incident,” Saunderson says. “Our investigation is ongoing.”
