If you got your first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine before April 15, B.C.’s top doctor is again reminding your to register with the province.
Dr. Bonnie Henry says if you don’t register, you will get a letter in the mail from her telling you when you can book your second COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
“If you received your vaccine in one of our clinics prior to April 15, and you have not yet gone on and registered, I encourage you to do that today. That will just quickly give you access to the second dose,” she said.
“Everyone will still be notified, it will be a bit delayed if you’re one of the people who has not yet gone onto the Get Registered system.”
B.C. began administering the COVID-19 vaccine on Dec. 15, 2020 to people considered the most vulnerable including residents and staff of long-term care facilities, and remote and isolated Indigenous communities.
“For everybody who did receive their vaccine before the registration system was up and running, we do have your name, your personal health number, your mailing address, and of course, know exactly which lot of which vaccine you received,” Henry said.
“What we don’t have is an email or a phone number to invite to book your dose two appointment.”
Last Thursday, the province reduced the timeline between the first and second vaccine dose to eight weeks, if you got either the Pfizer or the Moderna vaccine. In some cases, people who got the Moderna vaccine will be offered Pfizer for their second dose because of supply issues.
But for the most part, Henry says, people will get the same brand of vaccine for their second dose.
And if you’re someone who got the AstraZeneca vaccine for your first dose, Henry said to “hold on tight for a few more days” with more details to come.
