Former Kamloops Blazer Dave Chyzowski is back in the game as the new Head Coach and General Manager of the Merritt Centennials.
The Centennials Board of Directors have approved a two-year deal with an option for a third year. Most recently, Chyzowski was with Delta Hockey Academy and the Vancouver Giants as an Assistant Coach for one season before he returned to Kamloops.
The second overall pick in the 1989 NHL draft, Chyzowski played 128 games in the NHL and also had stops around North America and Europe.
Centennials Director of Hockey Operations John Stuart says Chyzowski brings a wealth of knowledge and intangibles to the table.
“We had over 40 applicants for head coaching position with some very qualified coaches applying. As a committee we took our time and due diligence on what we wanted in selecting a head coach,” he said.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the hiring of Dave Chyzowski. His knowledge and experiences in hockey, his knowledge of how to deal with teenage boys on pursuing their dream is something we truly value as an organization.”
Chyzowski will take over for outgoing Centennials Head Coach/GM Derek Sweet-Coulter who’s contract was not renewed following a 3-17 season inside the Chilliwack BCHL Pod.
