With just 277 cases, B.C.’s health officials are reporting the lowest ever COVID-19 cases count so far this year.
Of that, there were 96 new cases on Saturday, 113 new cases on Sunday, and just 68 new cases in the last 24 hours – the lowest one day total since September.
There were 63 cases in Interior Health, with the other 148 in Fraser Health, 36 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 16 in Northern Health, and 12 on Vancouver Island, along with two cases in people who normally live outside of Canada.
Active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. are at 1,537 with 136 people in hospital, 42 in intensive care. All of those numbers are down from Friday’s update. Another four people though died of the virus this weekend, taking the death toll to 1,734 people.
Health officials say over four-million COVID vaccine doses have been administered in B.C., with another 154,765 doses administered over the weekend. There are now 75.9 per cent of all adults and 74.1 per cent of people over the age of 12 who have gotten at least one dose of a vaccine.
There were 115,521 second doses administered over the weekend, meaning there are now 613,453 people who have been fully vaccinated.
“Today, the details of Step 2 in our BC’s Restart plan were provided. As Premier John Horgan shared, we are moving slowly and cautiously, closely watching community transmission and our rates of immunization to ensure we have the confidence to safely increase our social connections,” Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, and Health Minister Adrian Dix said, in a statement.
“Safety plans and masks are still required in all indoor public spaces, as is the need to give others space, to stay home when we are ill and get tested if we develop symptoms. These layers of protection continue to be very important for all of us.”
Henry says the target is to vaccinate everybody in the province, but earlier today admitted that may not be a realistic goal.
“Let’s keep moving forward safely as we enter this exciting next stage in BC’s Restart plan,” she added.
