Two days later, Kamloops RCMP have confirmed there was a shooting Sunday night, before the victim was treated in a very public area of Valleyview.
Mounties were called at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday to the Save On Foods parking lot, on the East Trans-Canada Highway after a man had been shot.
Sgt. Darren Michels says the man had likely been shot near the Thompson River before walking to the grocery store complex. Michels says several bystanders starting giving first aid to the man until first responders arrived.
Michels says the victim was taken to Royal Inland Hospital and is believed to be in stable condition.
The shooting was believed to be targeted, Michels tells NL News, and he says there was no risk to the general public. Mounties are still looking for a suspect.
Many witnesses began reporting the shooting Sunday night, before police confirmation today.
Michels says police are now looking for witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious in the area around the time of the shooting. Anyone with information is being asked to call police at 250-828-3000, and cite file number 2021-19669.
