
B.C. health officials are reporting 108 new COVID-19 cases in the province today, 37 of which were in Interior Health.
Elsewhere, there were 53 cases in Fraser Health, 11 in Vancouver Coastal Health, four on Vancouver Island, and three in Northern Health.
There are currently 1,496 active cases of COVID-19 in the province with 139 people in hospital with the virus. Of that, 39 people are in ICU. Active cases and the number of people in intensive care are down from yesterday, though the number of people in hospital is up by three.
All told, there have now been 4,102,905 vaccine doses administered in the province, 657,491 of which are second doses. That means, 76.1 per cent of adults and 74.4 per cent of people over the age of 12 have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine.
“Today, we start Step 2 of BC’s Restart plan, moving forward slowly to put the COVID-19 pandemic behind us,” a statement from Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said. “As has been the case since the start of the pandemic, our success in this next phase is dependent on all of us doing our part to keep COVID-19 low and slow.”
“If you are considering visiting another community for recreational travel, be aware that some people and some communities are moving at a slower pace – a pace that works for them. These communities may not be ready to welcome visitors at this time, so please be respectful when making any travel plans.”
There were no new deaths reported today, and the outbreak at Kelowna General Hospital is now over, according to health officials.
There are now 143,299 people who tested are considered have recovered from COVID-19, about 97 per cent of the 146,561 cases in British Columbia.
