A pesky four-legged vandal has caused some damage along part of the Rivers Trail.
City of Kamloops utility services manager Greg Wightman says the scene of the crime is in the 300-block of Schubert Drive, and crews will spend all day Thursday re-building the trail there.
“So our crews had noticed, a couple weeks ago, what we thought initially was a pot hole starting to form, along Schubert Drive. As we continued to explore that, it was determined it was a much larger issue.”
And Wightman says they found out there’s a tunnel, built by an animal.
“So crews will be out tomorrow with that portion of the Rivers Trail along Schubert Drive there closed, as we excavate and essentially rebuild that portion of the Rivers Trail.”
He couldn’t confirm the critter that caused it, but says marmots are generally the culprits on the riverfronts.
He says it’s very uncommon for an animal tunnel to need this length of repair, saying usually animal tunnels can simply be filled.
The repair work will happen between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. tomorrow.
The River’s Trail will be closed directly adjacent to 309 Schubert Drive on June 24 while crews conduct an emergency repair. Please use caution when in the area and obey all signage. #kamloops pic.twitter.com/HDxFdZlizf
