A fire near the Coquihalla Highway that started yesterday has now been put out.
It was burning next to the highway about 11 kilometres outside of Kamloops, near Inks Lake Road, and grew to 0.59 hectares in size.
“The Rush Lake fire was called out today. We had three personnel respond and patrol the fire for any remaining hotspots, and were able to extinguish those hotspots. And it’s now been called out,” fire information officer, Taylor MacDonald says.
Several members of the public reported seeing hotspots at the fire this morning to NL News.
MacDonald says the blaze was believed to be human caused but a specific cause is not yet known.
Meanwhile, just south of Lytton, the George Road wildfire remains 350 hectares in size and is still considered out of control. It first started nine days ago, and is believed to be human caused.
“There has been no new growth and crews continue to make good progress… despite the hot weather that the area has been experiencing,” an update this afternoon from the BC Wildfire Service says.
Today, there are 37 firefighters, two helicopters and a water tender battling the blaze.
