B.C. is reporting more than 100 COVID-19 cases today for the first time in more than a month.
There were 112 new cases and four deaths from the virus today. June 18 was the last time B.C. had this many new daily cases, when there were 109.
Of today’s cases, 59 were in Interior Health, which continues to have the highest daily new cases of any health authorities. There were also 30 new cases in Fraser Health, 15 in Vancouver Coastal Health, five in Island Health and three in Northern Health.
With today’s update, the seven-day rolling average of new cases has risen to 73, compared to 42 just a week ago.
Last week, between July 11-17, there were 11 new cases in the Kamloops Local Health Area, and the region had a test-positivity rate of below two per cent.
Despite the rise in cases, active cases have dropped substantially in the past day; there are 603 active cases, compared to 781 yesterday.
Province wide, there are 46 people in hospital with the virus and 17 people in intensive care.
Another 60,876 vaccine doses have been administered in the past day in B.C., with the total now at 6,422,503 vaccines. Of residents aged 12 and older, 80.3 per cent are now vaccinated with at least one dose, while 58.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.
First-dose vaccine rates have risen modestly in the Kamloops area to 77 per cent as of July 19. Broken down further, that includes 82 per cent in Kamloops South, 74 per cent in Kamloops North, and 71 per cent in the Lower Thompson (which covers Sun Peaks, Barriere, Little Fort, Chase, Savona, Tobiano, Logan Lake and areas in between).
