COVID-19 cases continue to head the wrong way with 267 cases over the weekend, 155 of which were in Interior Health.
That is more than three times the number of cases in Fraser Health, which saw 48 over the same time period, followed by 41 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 18 in Island Health, five in Northern Health, and zero new cases in people who live outside of Canada.
Over the weekend, there were 94 cases reported on Saturday, July 24, 79 on Sunday, July 25, and another 94 cases today.
Of the 695 active cases in British Columbia, there are 342 are in Interior Health – the most in any one health authority. Another 185 active cases are in Fraser Health, followed by 118 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 32 in Island Health, 14 in Northern Health, and four in people who live outside of Canada.
There are now 43 people in hospital with COVID-19 in B.C., with 17 people in intensive care.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says the majority of the new cases in the Interior are primarily linked to indoor social gatherings among those who are not fully vaccinated.
As of the last update, there are just under 81 per cent of people 12 and older who have gotten their first dose of a COVID vaccine, while 61 per cent of people are fully vaccinated.
