Kamloops RCMP are looking for a suspect after an attack that is alleged to have taken place near a beach party on the North Shore.
RCMP say around 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday night, officers responded to a scream near the volleyball courts at Overlanders Park on Kitchener Crescent.
Officers say they came across a young woman who reported that a man with a knife jumped out near the washroom and pushed her to the ground. RCMP say the woman was not injured after she fought the man off before he fled the scene.
A man was detained briefly but later released, according to RCMP.
The suspect is described as a white man in his mid-20s, standing about five-foot-ten with a slender build and a slim, long face. He also had green eyes, bushy eyebrows, and short, well kept hair.
He walked with a distinctive limp and was wearing a black shirt, baggy tan pants with big pockets, and a black Nike hat at the time of the attack.
“There was a beach party with about 30 people in attendance nearby at the time of the attack,” RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said. “We are hoping someone there saw or heard something, or can identify a suspect to help us further this investigation.”
