With ‘Hot Nite in the City’ making a long awaited return this Saturday, Kamloops RCMP are reminding people to take extra precautions.
In a statement, RCMP say the event is expected to attract several visitors to downtown Kamloops from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., when about 300 vehicles will be on display on Victoria Street.
“We encourage everyone to enjoy Hot Nite in the City however, as this is one of the first big events since COVID restrictions eased, we would like to remind those attending to be responsible and considerate of other people in attendance and of the community,” Cpl. Dana Napier of the Kamloops RCMP Crime Prevention Unit said, in a statement.
Napier says RCMP have been working the City’s Community Services Officers as well as event organizers in preparation for the event which was last held in 2019.
Victoria Street will be closed between First and Sixth avenues on Saturday. Drivers looking to access Lansdowne Street from the south will have to do so on Sixth Avenue.
People are also being reminded to follow the rules of the road, City bylaws, and to also lock up and hide their valuables. They’re also being told to be aware of their surroundings, to plan your route and avoid isolated areas, and to trust your instincts.
“Anytime you’re out in the community, it’s always a good idea to travel with a friend and use the buddy system if you can,” Napier added. “It never hurts to have a friend looking out for you, especially if you get lost or need help.”
RCMP Traffic Services will also be on scene reminding people there will be zero tolerance for impaired and unsafe driving.
