As crews are mopping up in Logan Lake from the Tremont Creek fire, officials say residents should be able to go home by tomorrow.
The District of Logan Lake says the goal is to lift the evacuation order “in the next day or so,” which would mean downgrading the order to an alert. Staff say to monitor the district’s website, Facebook page and the Voyent Alert app for an update.
The fire pushed into the municipal boundaries on the weekend, driven by heavy winds, and came within 50 feet of some homes.
Fortunately, no structures were lost, after efforts by more than 170 firefighters and BC Wildfire Service aerial and ground crews.
This update comes as Highland Valley Copper announced it has lifted its evacuation order today, as workers were forced out on Sunday. This will allow the open-pit copper mine to scale up operations in the coming days.
District staff in Logan Lake say Highway 97C through Ashcroft is still the preferred route, for now, for mine workers, with Highway 97D still being closed from Lac Le Jeune to Logan Lake.
