Kamloops RCMP have made two arrests and seized drugs and cash after raiding a suspected drug house on the North Shore.
The raid happened on Wednesday at about 4 p.m. at the home on the 100-block of Yew Street, where police set up surveillance and watched “dozens” of drug deals take place.
Const. Crystal Evelyn said a search warrant was received by police and an unspecified amount of drugs and cash were seized from that home. Two people inside the home were also arrested.
“The ongoing enforcement of drug traffickers and offenders in possession of weapons who are entrenched within the drug trade remain a strategic priority, especially those offenders who supply the vulnerable with illicit drugs in our business areas,” Inspector Jeff Pelley said. “We will continue to take an enforcement and suppression approach to these types of criminal acts to assist in holding these offenders fully responsible through the judicial system.”
Evelyn said other drug busts have happened recently as Mounties continue to target dealers on the North Shore.
She said Mounties on patrol watched a suspected drug deal happen last Friday, at about 3:30 p.m. on Tranquille Road, and ended up seizing drugs suspected to be fentanyl, crack cocaine and meth, as well as cash, drug paraphernalia, and weapons including a large knife and bear spray.
There have been no reports of charges laid in either of the seizures.
“As part of the criminal justice process, in cases like these, we are required to release those arrested and continue our investigation prior to applying for charge approval from the federal Crown Prosecution Service,” Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay said.
“Those investigations can take months to complete while we wait for the return of drug analysis reports and secure other evidence required for consideration.”
Mounties are encouraging people to report drug deals or other suspicious drug activity to 250-828-3000.
