
B.C. health officials are reporting another 698 cases of COVID-19, including 252 in Interior Health.
There are now 5,356 active cases of the virus in B.C., with 1,911 in the Interior, which yet again reported the highest number of daily cases among health authorities. Active cases in the Interior were down by 143 from yesterday’s update, while all other health authorities saw a slight increase in active COVID-19 cases.
Fraser Health reported 203 new cases (1,294 active) Wednesday, Vancouver Coastal Health saw 129 new cases (1,347 active), 69 new cases in Island Health (470 active), and 45 new cases in Northern Health (322 active). There were no new cases in people who live outside of Canada, with 12 such cases active.
Hospitalizations have increased by one to 139 people, with 75 people in intensive care across the province, down by three. There was also one new death reported in Fraser Health with the death toll now at 1,802 people.
Between August 10 and 23, health officials say people who are not fully vaccinated accounted for 83.3 per cent of all COVID cases in B.C. and 85.0 per cent of hospitalizations.
They say from August 17 to 23, 66.8 per cent of cases (3,051) were in unvaccinated people, with another 16.5 per cent (535) in partially vaccinated people, and 16.6 per cent (752) in fully vaccinated people.
When it comes to hospitalizations from August 10 to 23, 77.0 per cent (144) were people who were unvaccinated, while eight per cent (15) were partially vaccinated people, and the remaining 15 per cent (28) were fully vaccinated people.
On the vaccine front, there are now 83.5 per cent of eligible people over the age of 12 (3,869,329) who have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine, while 75.4 per cent of people (3,493,119) who are fully vaccinated.
