
For a second straight day, evacuation orders have been lifted near the July Mountain wildfire south of Merritt.
Fifty-eight properties, covering all of Brookmere, had orders downgraded to alert by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
Brookmere had been evacuated on August 14 when the Brook Creek fire broke out, which merged the next day with the July Mountain blaze. Merritt RCMP are now looking for a suspect in an alleged domestic abuse case, which preceded the suspect’s truck catching on fire and reportedly starting the Brook Creek fire.
This comes after 52 properties were taken off of order yesterday including Kane Valley, while 135 properties covering Aspen Grove and other nearby areas were taken off of alert.
There remains 25 properties on evacuation order near the July Mountain, with 24 on Juliet Drive and one on Coldwater Road. The properties on Juliet Drive have been evacuated since July 20.
Meanwhile, the TNRD has given the all-clear to 185 properties near the Tremont Creek wildfire, including Tunkwa Lake, Paska Lake, Dominic Lake and all other properties nearby that have been on evacuation alert. A full list of addresses affected can be found here. With this, there are no longer any evacuation orders and alerts near the Tremont Creek wildfire.
The TNRD also lifted 19 evacuation alerts near Bonaparte Lake and the Sparks Lake wildfire today, which are all of the alerts on the northern flanks of the fire.
