Ashcroft RCMP say they have followed on a few tips they’ve received in the past two weeks, as the search for a missing 75-year-old man continues.
Spokesperson Const. Richard Wright tells NL News police are still looking for any information into the whereabouts of Joseph Zabotel. who has been missing since August 29.
“We are asking at this point for the public to educate themselves on what Mr. Zabotel looks like and the clothing he was last seen wearing which was a blue checked shirt, blue jeans and a blue baseball cap with the word ‘Sylvania’ written on it,” Wright told NL News.
“He may introduce himself as ‘Johnny Grinder’. He may come across as someone who is suffering from a mental health disorder, and the family tells us he has been diagnosed with dementia.”
Zabotel was last seen near his house in the 1700-block of Highway 99, between Lillooet and Cache Creek. Last week, RCMP said the scope of the search was being expanded as Zabotel has links to the Kamloops area as well as the state of Washington.
“We have received several tips that we have followed up on and unfortunately, we haven’t been able to locate Mr. Zabotel yet,” Wright added. “Every time we get a tip, we follow up and if we can identify that yes, he was there or no he wasn’t there but unfortunately, we haven’t been able to confirm his presence.”
“It is members of the public who are keen eyes and wanting to find Mr. Zabotel and we encourage that behaviour to continue and hopefully we’re able to find him safe and well.”
If you have any information, you are asked to call Ashcroft RCMP at 250-453-2216 or Crime Stoppers.
“We are very concerned that Mr. Zabotel has been out of contact for this long as it is very out of character,” Wright said.
