Kamloops RCMP say a police officer was punched in the head during a “mental health apprehension” yesterday, Sept. 13.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says officers were called to an address on the 200-block of Victoria Street downtown to apprehend a man who was wanted on a Form 21 Mental Health Warrant. She says the man tried to run away when he found by police, at which time, the officer who tried to stop him was punched.
“The officer suffered a minor injury, but is expected to recover fully,” Evelyn said. “The man was released to the hospital, pending the investigation’s conclusion and subsequent charge assessment.”
