Kamloops RCMP say a suspect has now been charged after a stabbing on Saturday night at a local motel.
Police were called to the Star Lodge, at 775 Columbia Street West, just after 5 p.m., for an initial reported of a disturbance and a possible stabbing.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says a man was found at the scene with stab wounds, and was taken to hospital.
“Police presence was visible on scene for some time following the incident as police obtained, then executed a search warrant in relation to the investigation,” she says.
The victim has since been released from hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Evelyn says a woman was arrested at the scene but later released, and a man was later found and arrested in connection to the stabbing.
Forty-nine-year-old Kamloops resident Kenneth Patrick West has now been charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, aggravated assault and breach of probation. West has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2004, with offenses in Kamloops, Vancouver, Burnaby and North Bend, near Boston Bar.
West was scheduled to appear in Kamloops court this afternoon.
A motive for the stabbing remains unclear.
RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident and anyone with information is being asked to call the local detachment, at 250-828-3000, and reference file number 2021-32895.
