
B.C. health officials are reporting a provisional 1,692 COVID-19 cases this past weekend, 371 of which were in Interior Health.
There were 644 cases on Saturday, another 613 on Sunday, and 435 on Monday, according to data released by the province.
Active cases in the province are at 5,608, down by 423 from Friday’s update. There are 1,183 active cases in Interior Health, down by 316 cases from the last update.
Fraser Health reported 533 new cases (1,732 active) with 345 in Northern Health (1,037 active), 239 in Vancouver Coastal Health (988 active), and 204 in Island Health (661 active). There were no new cases in people who live outside of Canada with seven such cases active.
Provincially, the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 was up by nine to 307, with 156 of those people in intensive care. That is an increase of 21 people over this weekend.
Over the past three days, there were 11 new COVID deaths reported – six in Fraser Health, three in Northern Health, and two in Vancouver Coastal Health – for a provincial total of 1,899.
Earlier in the day, Interior Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Overlander Residential Care, a long-term care facility in Kamloops, with four cases – two staff members and two residents.
An outbreak at Kamloops Seniors Village was revised to 18 cases – eight among staff and ten among residents – with one death linked. That is down by one staff case from the 19 total cases reported on Friday.
The other outbreak in Kamloops is at the Hamlets at Westsyde which has six cases linked – three among residents and three among staff members.
Data from the province shows there are now 86.8 per cent of people over the age of 12 (4,024,302) have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine, while 79.4 per cent (3,679,181) are fully vaccinated. That is an increase of 16,226 first doses and 19,686 second doses when compared to Friday.
Between Sept. 10 and 16, the government says people not fully vaccinated accounted for 76.3 per cent of new COVID cases. Between Sept. 3 and Sept. 16, they accounted for 85 per cent of all hospitalizations.
