Police are investigating after a Swastika was spray-painted on a highway billboard in Kamloops, which encourages people to get a vaccine to prevent spreading COVID-19.
Kamloops RCMP say the billboard is on Highway 5 about one kilometre south of the Halston Connector, and say the vandalism is believed to have happened sometime between Saturday afternoon and this morning.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says police were alerted today of the spray-painting, after a report of “anti-COVID messaging” and a Swastika being tagged.
The billboard is on Tk’emlúps te Secwepmc land, and has been rented by the band and the Q’wemstin Health Society to encourage people to get a vaccine, saying it is good medicine for people to help prevent the spread of the potentially-deadly virus.
Anyone with information on the vandalism, or who potentially has dashcam footage, is being asked to call the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP detachment at 250-314-1800.
