
Two more Interior Health residents have died of COVID-19 as the province reports 832 new cases of the disease, 153 of which were in the Interior.
Active cases in the province are at 5,697, up by 239 from Wednesday’s update. There are 1,181 active cases in Interior Health, an decrease of 42 from yesterday.
The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 across B.C. is up by six to 330, with 148 of those people in intensive care, a decrease of nine.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says 95 per cent of patients currently in ICU with COVID-19 are not fully vaccinated. Of that 132 are not vaccinated with eight partially vaccinated and another eight fully vaccinated.
More than half of the unvaccinated people (74) are between the ages of 50 and 69, with another 35 are under the age of 50, including five patients in their 20s, and one below the age of 20.
Fraser Health had nearly half of the new cases reported with 377 (1,932 active). Elsewhere, there were 117 new cases in Northern Health (977 active), 114 in Vancouver Coastal Health (909 active), and 71 in Island Health (654 active).
There were no new cases in people who live outside of Canada with 44 such cases active.
Two other COVID deaths were reported in Fraser Health with one in Northern Health, taking the overall provincial death toll to 1,915 people.
One more resident at Overlander Residential Care in Kamloops has tested positive for the virus taking the total in that facility to five cases – three residents and two staff.
An outbreak at the Hamlets at Kamloops Seniors Village remains at 19 cases – nine among staff and ten among residents – with one death linked, while at outbreak at The Hamlets at Westsyde remains at six cases – three among residents and three among staff members.
Data from the province shows there are now 87.3 per cent of people over the age of 12 (4,046,960) have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine, while 79.9 per cent (3,701,696) are fully vaccinated.
That is an increase of 7,994 first doses and 8,774 second doses when compared to Monday.
Between Sept. 15 and Sept. 21, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 75.5 per cent of new cases. Between Sept. 8 and Sept. 21, they accounted for 82.6 per cent of hospitalizations.
