
B.C. is reporting 1,986 new cases of COVID-19 this past weekend, 414 of which were in Interior Health.
There were 617 new cases reported on Saturday, 707 on Sunday, and another 662 Monday, along with ten more deaths, taking the provincial death toll to 1,983 people.
Five of those deaths were reported in Fraser Health which saw 782 new cases of the virus (2,333 active). Two deaths were in Northern Health which saw 346 new cases (965 active), two more were in Vancouver Coastal Health which had 226 weekend cases (859 active), with one death in Interior Health which has 1,132 active cases.
There were no deaths in Island Health which reported 218 new cases (640 active) and no new cases in people who live outside of Canada with 57 such cases active.
Active cases in the province are at 5,986 with 326 people in hospital with the virus, 142 in intensive care.
Interior Health says there were no changes reported at any of the active long term care home outbreaks in Kamloops. There are still 22 cases at Overlander Long-Term Care – 16 residents and six staff with two deaths connected to the outbreak.
The Hamlets at Westsyde long-term care remains at has six cases – three residents and three staff, while an outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital unit 6N remains at two patient cases.
As for vaccines, 88.2 per cent of eligible people over the age of 12 (4,089,226) have gotten one dose of the vaccine, while 81.6 per cent (3,782,008) are fully vaccinated. That is an increase of 9,308 first doses and 20,960 second doses when compared to Friday’s update.
Data shows that between Sept. 24 and 30, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 71.5 per cent of all cases in B.C., while between Sept. 17 and 30, they accounted for 81.4 per cent of all hospitalizations.
