There were no serious injuries reported after a five vehicle crash on West Victoria Street in front of Stereo Warehouse and Sisters’ Sleep Gallery.
The crash in the westbound lanes was reported around 1:15 p.m. leading to massive traffic delays in both directions. In fact, some westbound traffic was being routed around the crash through a parking lot.
“There was a car in front of me turning towards Budget Brake and Muffler and I stopped behind him and I looked in my mirror to make sure the guy behind me was stopping. He stopped, and that is all that I could see,” Zora Keys, who was driving the second car told NL News.
“And then two seconds later I heard a big bang and then about two seconds after that I got pushed into the car ahead of me and flew forward and then flew backwards.”
While she’s not sure what caused the crash, Keys says she has often seen cars drive past the area at high speed.
“I was expecting this was going to happen eventually to be honest,” she added.
Witnesses at the scene told NL News that the fourth car, a beige Nissan SUV, hit the third car and pushed it into the first two cars that were stopped. The fifth vehicle, a white GMC truck then slid into the back of the Nissan as it was unable to stop in time.
It is not clear when the crash scene will be cleared. Drivers are being told to avoid the area if they can.
