Many grocery store shelves in Kamloops are becoming bare, in the wake of washouts on major highways affecting the supply chain.
Mayor Ken Christian asked people to use common sense with what they’re buying.
“There seems to have been a run on groceries in the City of Kamloops, and I would urge Kamloops residents to stop hoarding. This is not the disaster you might anticipate. This is a supply disruption.” Christian says.
“There may be a shortage of some kinds of produce in particular. But there are other substitute produce pieces that we can use. And we have lines of transport trucks in our community. Now every available space is being used. Which indicates to me that the supply chain from eastern Canada to Kamloops is working just fine.”
Products like meat, produce and toilet paper have been completely emptied out in recent days at local grocery stores.
Christian also asked people to be patient with the extent of repairs that will be needed on area highways, particularly on the Coquihalla which appears that it will be closed for several weeks and potentially months.
