Police in Merritt are trying to find a man who was seen walking into fast-moving water while part of the city was flooding.
Mounties say the man, whose identity is unknown, remains unaccounted for.
The man was seen walking into water near Chapman Street on the southwest part of town at about 4:22 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, while the Coldwater River was rising.
Police say the man walked behind Merritt Secondary School and hasn’t been seen since. He was wearing a black hoodie and a tan jacket when he was last seen.
“We are trying to identify this man and confirm that he is safe,” Const. Jon Puterbough of the Merritt RCMP says. “If you know this person or this is you, please contact Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.”
This is the first official report of a person being unaccounted for in Merritt after flooding hit.
As of Thursday afternoon, police said four people were missing as a result of a mudslide on Highway 99 west of Lillooet, while one person had been killed in that slide.
