Kamloops RCMP say a large police presence near Memorial Arena on Saturday night was the result of a report about a gun shot fired, though they say there was no evidence of one found.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn told NL News police were called to the 700-block of Victoria Street around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20.
Between 10 and 12 cars were on the scene, and it appeared that police had a couple blocks of Victoria Street closed to traffic. Witnesses also reported that officers had their rifles out as they appeared to be surrounding the arena.
At least one table at a neighbouring restaurant was moved away from the windows as people were told to ‘stay inside, and away from the windows’ for some time.
“The Police Dog Service Unit conducted a search, and nothing was located to substantiate the claim,” she said. “Police are investigating and reviewing surveillance in the area.”
Anyone with information about this incident is being asked to call Kamloops RCMP and reference file number 2021-40613.
There’s something going in downtown #Kamloops. About 10-12 cop cars pulled up, and appear to be surrounding Memorial Arena.
I don’t know for certain as we’ve been told to ‘stay inside, and away from the windows.’ @RadioNLNews pic.twitter.com/21YHVG2kV2
