Merritt RCMP say a man who was “last seen being swept away” in flooding last week has now been found safely.
Mounties had put out a call on Friday for the public to help try and identify a missing person, who was photographed walking down Chapman Street before disappearing.
In an update on Sunday, police say with public support, that person was identified and later found “safe and sound” in Kamloops.
“He is patiently waiting for the evacuation order to be lifted to return home. We want to thank the public for their assistance in identifying him and getting us in contact with him to ensure he made it out safely,” Const. Jon Puterbough says.
There were concerns of the man’s wellbeing after he was apparently seen walking into water behind Merritt Secondary School on Nov. 15, while the Coldwater River was flooding and moving fast.
Currently, there are no other public missing person reports related to the flooding in Merritt.
Flooding in B.C. last week has killed at least four people, who were hit by a mudslide on Highway 99 west of Lillooet. A fifth person remains missing from that slide.
