UPDATE – There is a new issue on one of two routes connecting B.C.’s Interior to the Lower Mainland.
Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton was closed briefly Monday due to another mudslide between Sunshine Valley and Allison Pass Summit.
However, in an afternoon update, Drive BC says the highway has reopened to single lane alternating traffic, though drivers are being told to watch for major delays due to congestion.
“Highway 3 has reopened for goods movement and people travelling for essential purposes only following a closure to conduct a geotechnical assessment,” the province said, in a statement. “The highway was deemed safe for travel with monitoring in place.”
The highway had only just reopened to essential traffic on Friday.
Highway 99 is the only other route that connects the Interior to the Lower Mainland, though it is for smaller vehicles only and not large semi trucks. However, there was a vehicle incident about 24km north of Pemberton. Traffic is being held at the In-Shuck-Ch Forest Service Road checkpoint.
This new washout comes as CP Rail expects to have its tracks between Kamloops and Vancouver open as of noon today, Nov. 22.

Portion of Highway 1 in Fraser Valley opens
Receding water in the Abbotsford area has allowed the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 between Highway 11 east to Cole Road to be open for emergency access only.
People will be able head in both directions if they are involved in agricultural operations in the area.
“As this is an active construction zone, drivers can expect speed restrictions, traffic control people and signage,” the Ministry of Transportation says, in a statement.
“Essential purposes for travel are defined in the travel restrictions order through the Emergency Program Act. RCMP will be onsite to ensure essential access only, as defined by the order. All other vehicles will be turned around.”
Highway 1 between Cole Road and Yale Road is still underwater, with no estimated time of reopening.
