A major commercial vehicle collision took place on Friday on Highway 3, killing three and injuring one.
Princeton RCMP reported two commercial transport trucks collided head on at 6:10 a.m., and caught fire, while the third transport truck was unable to stop, and rolled into a ditch after striking the wreckage.
The drivers and the passenger of the head-on collision all died on the scene, while the driver of the third vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Police are investigating black ice as a possible cause. The collision caused a 16 hour road closure.
As Princeton RCMP were on sight, a second accident was reported involving another commercial vehicle on Highway 3, near Manning Park at 6:50 am. Police said the driver was speeding while entering a curve, causing him to lose control. The driver had minor injuries. BC Highway Patrol from Chilliwack attended to the call, saying that officers from Princeton couldn’t get there.
Police urge drivers to be vigilant with upcoming weather changes and road conditions, as heavy rain and black ice become more common. Mounties also point out B.C. is still in a state of emergency, due to the extreme heavy rain, flooding, and mudslides.
With many major highway closures, it is expected the remaining highways will have greater volumes of traffic. RCMP are advising to allow extra time when commuting. Additionally, they are encouraging people to only travel if it is essential, and to stay prepared with food, water, clothing, and fully charged phones.
