Kamloops RCMP say they recovered about $20,000 worth of stolen dirt-bikes after a recent bust at a Valleyview motel.
In a statement, spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says police were called to RTR Performance in the 2000-block of the East Trans Canada Highway after the owners reported a break-in the night before.
It was the fourth break-in or attempted break-in at the Valleyview dealership since May.
Evelyn says police were able to identify a suspect after reviewing surveillance footage from the scene as well as from other businesses in the area.
“Investigators tracked the suspect to a motel on the 1900-block of the East Trans Canada Highway,” she said. “When the suspect answered the door for police, the officers observed several dirt-bikes inside, including one they recognized to be stolen.”
Evelyn says the suspect was arrested, and police were able to get a search warrant allowing them to enter the motel room. She says the bikes were returned to the dealership.
The suspect was released with a court date, pending the conclusion of the investigation and the approval of charges.
People who witnessed the theft or if they have information are asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file number: 2021-41120.
