Wildlights at the BC Wildlife Park is set to get underway this Friday after last year’s edition had to be cancelled due to COVID-19.
General Manager Glenn Grant says staff at the Wildlife Park have set up nearly a million lights in the hopes of making this year’s event bigger and better than years past.
“Unfortunately we, won’t able to do it last year but we made a few new really cool things that we thought ‘oh this is going to be awesome’ and then we weren’t able to display that. So this year when they added a couple of things, there will be a lot more new things to see,” he said.
“The tunnel that goes along the back road is a lot longer than it was that people will remember. We had a flag pole in the middle of the park now that we turned into a light tree.”
“The Kamloops Princesses will also be joining us for selected nights. We’ve set up a magical forest, complete with Anna and Elsa, Belle and Cinderella, and Ariel and Sleeping Beauty,” Grant added, noting you’ll find details about those visits online.
Grant says he is excited to welcome people back after the 2020 edition of Wildlights had to be cancelled because of COVID-19. He also notes people won’t have to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination as Wildlights is an outdoor, flow through event.
“So once people enter in and pay their admission or annual pass holders come in, they’ll just flow right out. We won’t have any indoor displays,” he said. “But there is a mask mandate for any time you’re in an indoor space.”
Wildlights 2021 will run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. everyday, starting on Dec. 10 until Jan. 3 of next year, with the exception of Christmas Day.
There will be a maximum of 1,000 online presale tickets available each night. People will annual passes and memberships to their Wildlife Park are eligible for a discount when buying a ticket.
