The newest wave of COVID-19 is now affecting the Kamloops Blazers with both of this weekend’s games postponed by the Western Hockey League.
The Blazers were scheduled to host Portland tomorrow, Jan. 7, and Vancouver, Jan. 8 – both of which are part of seven weekend Western Conference games that have been postponed because of either COVID-19 or travel delays because of the ongoing snowstorms.
There are suspected positive cases on the team, though it is unclear how many players or staff members are affected. The Blazers are awaiting official confirmation of the results through PCR tests.
In a statement, the Blazers say season ticket holders as well as people who bought tickets to either of these games can use them at the rescheduled dates, which have yet to be announced.
Friday’s game between the Vancouver Giants and the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place has also been postponed due to COVID-19, along with a pair of games between Tri-City and Everett.
“The WHL is working in consultation with the WHL Chief Medical Officer regarding the players and staff entered into WHL COVID-19 Protocols,” the WHL said, in a statement. “Additional test results are pending and further information will be provided when it is available.”
