RCMP say several weapons were seized from an unlocked van on the North Shore in Kamloops early yesterday morning.
In a statement, Const. Crystal Evelyn says police discovered the weapons during a curfew check in the 300-block of Tranquille Road around 2:50 a.m. on Tuesday morning. She says the officers on scene spotted a suspicious brown van parked in the back lot with its panel exposed near the ignition and its plates removed.
Evelyn says the van’s doors were not locked, so when officers went to check the VIN number, they found a bag on the driver’s seat that appeared to have a firearm inside.
“A search of the bag revealed a rifle, double barrel shotgun, air pistol, ammunition, and throwing knife,” Evelyn said. “The items were seized for public safety.
“The van was not reported stolen and its registered owner was identified.”
Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
