With gyms and fitness centres now able to open across British Columbia, the City of Kamloops says there are a few changes for people to keep in mind if they’re using City facilities.
Recreation, Health and Wellness Supervisor, Linda Stride, says there will be capacity limits while also noting that everyone over the age of 12 will have to be fully vaccinated. She is also remind people to stay home if they are feeling sick or if they’ve been exposed to COVID-19.
All gyms and recreation facilities, including the Tournament Capital Centre Fieldhouse are open, though some fitness equipment may be unavailable because of spacing requirements put in place by Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.
Masks are also mandatory at all times unless you’re exercising, though like Dr. Henry, the City is encouraging people to wear one even while exercising.
As for swimming pools, you will have to pre-register for AquaFit and lessons, though you won’t have to for public, lap, or leisure swims.
You’ll also have to pre-register for public skating, drop-in hockey, and Stick, Puck & Ring at one of the City-operating arena. People are also being urged to come to and leave the arena ready to play to reduce the amount of time spent in the arena.
“We appreciate the public’s patience as we continue to adjust our operations following the Provincial Health Orders,” Stride said. “We look forward to welcoming our recreational users back and ask residents to allow extra time for themselves and continue to be kind to staff as we work through the updated protocols including confirming proof of vaccination.”
