Kamloops RCMP say a woman was arrested and her vehicle destroyed by a train early Saturday morning in the Dallas area.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says police were called to the Dallas Road area around 3:20 a.m. on Mar. 5 after a vehicle which had gone into the ditch was stuck on the train tracks. She says a passing train destroyed the vehicle a short while later.
“The driver was safe and outside the vehicle, in the company of someone who stopped to help,” she said.
“As part of the investigation, police conducted roadside breath tests on the woman, which registered fail readings, indicating a blood alcohol content exceeding .08. She received a 90-day driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act.”
In a normal situation, the woman’s vehicle would have been impounded, had it not been destroyed by the passing train.
Impaired driver in Valleyview
It wasn’t the only impaired driving incident on Saturday.
Police say a Surrey man in his 30s was charged with numerous driving offences, after he stopped his vehicle in the slow lane of the Trans Canada Highway near Grand Boulevard around 1 p.m. that afternoon.
“When the officer pulled in behind the vehicle and activated his emergency lights, the driver allegedly fled, exiting at Grand Boulevard,” Evelyn said. “The vehicle and its passengers were located nearby. The driver had fled on foot, but was quickly found by the Police Service Dog Unit and arrested.”
Evelyn says the driver was also given a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30-days.
