UPDATE Apr 26, 1:15 p.m. –
Kamloops RCMP now say the second bone found on a walkway near the airport back on April 9 is not human.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says further examination by the BC Coroner Service’s Identification Specialist has revealed that the bone found by a hiker and their dog likely belonged to a juvenile deer.
“It is not human,” she told NL News. “It is not 100 per cent a deer but it is 100 per cent animal.”
“The new information confirms that the initial bone located on March 26, remains the only human bone located so far.”
Evelyn says the RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are both still investigating the circumstances surrounding the origin of the first bone. She did say that it is not related to the body that was pulled from the Thompson Rivers near Mission Flats Road late Monday.
“Since March 26, the area has been searched by the Police Dog Services Unit, Search and Rescue, and most recently, the RCMP Human Remains Detection (cadaver) dogs,” Evelyn added. “Air Services and the police boat were also utilized to expand the search and cover the shoreline. No other items of significance have been located.”
Anyone with further information is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2022-11538.
