The RCMP’s Southeast District Major Crime Unit is investigating after a body was found in a burned out vehicle in the Chase area.
Spokesperson Sgt. Chris Manseau says police were told about the abandoned older sedan in the area of the Skmana Lake Road and Loakin Bear Creek Road – northwest of Chase – around 1 p.m. last Friday, April 22.
The person has not yet been identified, with Manseau saying the major crime unit is taking over the “unexpected and suspicious death.”
“Investigators know the Skmana Forest Service road area is frequently used as a recreational area, and are urging anyone with trail or dash cam footage to call the RCMP Major Crime [Unit],” Manseau said.
“Investigators are still working on identifying the deceased individual and no further details are available at this time.”
Manseau says a dog was also found wandering in the general vicinity of the burned-out vehicle. They’re asking people to reach out if they recognize it as it may help investigators.
The Southeast District Major Crime Unit information line is at 1-877-987-8477.
