The BC Wildfire Service says the McDougall Forest Service Road fire that sparked southeast of Clearwater yesterday morning is now under control.
Fire Information Officer Ayden Coray tells NL News the fire remains mapped at 2.5 hectares in size.
“I know it was suspected human caused and it will be under investigation as all human caused wildfires are but we did have crews on scene within two hours of that fire once we got the initial reports and deemed it worthy of response,” Coray said.
“Our crews were on site around 11 a.m. yesterday morning and then they remained on site all through the day.”
Clearwater Mayor Merlin Blackwell told NL News there is a strong likelihood that the fire started out as a slash burn that got out of hand as it appeared to be burning on the edge of a clear cut.
