B.C. drivers are being told to prepare for as much as 10 cm of snow on the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt this week.
Environment Canada is out with yet another special weather statement, with snow expected to start late Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning.
“An unseasonable low pressure system combined with a cool and unstable airmass will bring snow to higher elevation passes,” the statement said. “Precipitation will start as rain at times mixed with wet snow overnight. As temperatures cool late Wednesday afternoon, precipitation will transition to steady snow.”
“[About] 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected before the snow eases to light flurries Thursday morning.”
Between 5 and 10 cm of snow is also expected on Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton, while on the Trans Canada Highway between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass, there could be about 5 cm of snow that falls tonight through to Wednesday morning.
“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions as strong winds could lead to localized blowing snow conditions with reduced visibility,” the statement said.
“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”
