UPDATE 10 a.m., May 18 – The BC Wildfire Service says a three hectare grassfire by Juniper Beach Provincial Park, west of Savona, is currently under control.
Fire Information Office Karley Desrosiers tells NL News the cause of the suspected human caused fire is still being investigated.
“We had ten personnel on scene last night. The RCMP were also there along with BC Hydro but as it stands, we have fire origin and cause on scene,” she said.
The fire broke out yesterday, with the BC Wildfire Service dashboard showing an ignition time of 8:51 a.m., Tuesday, May 17.
Highway contractor, Argo Roads Thompson says the Trans Canada Highway was closed for a few hours as crews responded to the blaze.
Desrosiers says there’s shouldn’t be any impacts to traffic today while these fire origin and cause crews are working to determine what caused this fire.
UPDATE: The Juniper Knoll wildfire (K20192), located approximately 16 km northeast (correction from yesterday’s report) of #AshcroftBC, is now mapped at 3 hectares. Its status is Under Control, which ensures there will be no further spread. #BCWildfire pic.twitter.com/aQjMysxTmh
