Pioneer Park, Kamloops
Reports of a large party at Pioneer Park on Saturday, resulted in two local men arrested by Kamloops RCMP.
At around 8:50 p.m. on June 4, Police attended the park on 7th avenue for a report of a “rowdy party,” however, upon arrival- Officers said noise levels were reasonable and no intoxication was observed.
A few hours later, Mounties were called back for an alleged fight involving a group of people chasing a man, adding that the victim was not located or identified.
As a result, a male youth and a man in his twenties were arrested for public intoxication and held in custody until sober. The youth was also issued violations tickets for Liquor Act offences.
Constable Crystal Evelyn says this is the second weekend police responded to a large party in the city, in which youth were involved.
Back on May 21, a large party involving youth on the North Shore left at least one person assaulted.
“When you have large gatherings of people in a public space, breaking the law by consuming alcohol in public and that sort of thing, then you are bound to have some of those incidents that go along with that type of behaviour,” explained Evelyn.
She suggests as COVID-19 restrictions lift, its a good reminder for people to be aware of what’s happening, and for parents to discuss with their kids about being safe.
“If they know their youth are going to a party, find out where they are going , what they are going to be doing and who they are with. Just go over some of those conversations about being safe, and following the laws in place as well for their own protection and for the protection of the community.”
Anyone who witnessed or has information on the fight at Pioneer Park is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
