While unclear just how much rain may fall, the City of Kamloops has put out a warning, asking locals to be its “eyes and ears” through Sunday.
With a lot of rain in the forecast, residents may notice pooling water as the City’s catch basins are sealed as part of our flood response plan. If you see something concerning, please don’t hesitate to report it to our Civic Operations team at 250-828-3461. #Kamloops pic.twitter.com/B6kV3jG6YG

A severe thunderstorm watch was put into effect on Sunday morning, with expectations that a strong storm system could potentially bring strong winds and heavy rain to the region through Sunday.

The forecast suggests the system will blow its way through on Sunday, potentially easing sometime in the overnight hours on Monday.
Because of the flood threat from the North and South Thompson Rivers, the City of Kamloops closes the catch basins so groundwater doesn’t seep up through them.
“What we are hearing from Environment Canada is just its going to be really hard to predict exactly where [the rain] is going to hit and exactly how much rain is going to come, and what we are hearing from the River Forecast Centre is that ‘your rivers are high and any significant amount of rain would be a concern right now,” Utility Services Manager, Greg Wightman told NL News last week.
Anyone spotting localized flooding in Kamloops is asked to contact the Civic Operations Department with the City of Kamloops at 250-828-3461.
