Another first for the Kamloops NorthPaws as infielder Ty Penner becomes the first player from the expansion franchise to sign a professional contract.
Penner, a University of British Columbia sophomore, signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies following the 2022 MLB Draft.
The six-foot-four left-handed bat hit for a .214 average with three doubles, three RBIs, and one home run in 15 games for the NorthPaws during the 2022 West Coast League season.
A Lethbridge, Alta. native, Penner hit for a .337 average with 11 home runs and 46 RBI in 52 games with the UBC Thunderbirds this past collegiate season.
A huge congratulations to NorthPaws infielder Ty Penner who is the first player in franchise history to sign a professional contract – signing with the @Phillies. Best of luck Ty, Kamloops is cheering for you! pic.twitter.com/lZMrnUCFkb
