UPDATE – 8pm, August 1st
A fire which had been impacting long-weekend holiday traffic west of Kamloops has been put under control by crews.
The Polygon Pond wildfire (K20956), 7.5km west of Kamloops, is now classified as Being Held at three hectares in size. Thanks to quick coordinated response from BC Wildfire Service, @KamFire , New Afton Fire Rescue and @BCRCMP, Highway 1 has now reopened west of Kamloops. #BCHwy1

Earlier on Monday, the vehicle-caused fire created traffic issues along the TransCanada west of Kamloops.

The fire broke out around 1pm near the New Afton Mine area.

No word at this point about any injuries connected to the initial vehicle fire.
This comes just hours after the BC Wildfire Service announced it’s putting in a campfire ban throughout the Kamloops Fire Center as of Thursday.
