With the heat warning lifted, and temperatures back to more seasonal levels, the City of Kamloops has closed the cooling centre at the Sandman Centre.
The City’s Recreation, Health, and Wellness Supervisor, Linda Stride says the downtown facility will not be open today.
“As Environment and Climate Change Canada has rescinded the heat warning for our region, the cooling centre at Sandman Centre has been deactivated and will not open today,” Stride said.
The cooling centre was first opened on July 26 when a heat warning was issue across much of the province. The facility remained open through the BC Day long weekend.
It is not clear how many people used the facility through the weekend, but Stride previously told NL News that roughly 60 people used the facility during the height of the heatwave last Thursday.
Environment Canada is calling for a high of 31 C in Kamloops today, August 2, with an overnight low of 17 C. It is forecasting a high of 29 C tomorrow, and 20 C on Thursday with a chance of showers in the area.
