Kamloops RCMP says it is reaching out to the community for information as it investigates a series of sexual interference allegations that date back to the May.
Spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says in late July, police began investigating a report involving workplace sexual assaults on an underage employee at an unidentified retail store on the 2000-block of the East Trans Canada Highway in Valleyview.
In a statement Tuesday, she says these incidents allegedly began in May and continued into July, with other victims having also spoken to police.
“As the investigation progresses, police have reason to believe more people may have information related to allegations involving the accused, but have not yet contacted police,” Evelyn said.
“If something has happened to you or someone you know, and you have not yet reported it to police, please reach out. It’s important for us to hear from you.”
Evelyn says the suspect was arrested last week and released on conditions, pending the conclusion of the investigation. No names have been released at this time.
“Even if a victim is not ready to proceed with criminal charges, they are still encouraged to report any suspected sexual offences to police,” she wrote. “Along with being able to offer and refer supports, officers can also collect data and information that may be able to assist in identifying more victims and helping to protect others.”
People with information are being told to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
And Evelyn also says people who have or know someone who has experienced sexual violence, can call the Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre Crisis Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 1-888-974-7278.
