The Mayor of Kamloops expects to have a new commanding officer for the RCMP detachment appointed this week.
Ken Christian tells NL News it comes as candidate interviews have been completed.
“Recommendations from the interview panel are going to the deputy commissioner of the E Division. That individual makes the appointments of officers in charge,” Christian said.
Sources to NL News have said there were four candidates who were up for Superintendent Syd Lecky’s job in Kamloops. Lecky is moving to Yellowknife to become the next commanding officer of the RCMP’s “G” Division in the Northwest Territories.
“Superintendent Lecky will assume his duties in the Northwest Territories imminently,” Christian added.
This new commanding officer will be one of at least two new senior RCMP officers, as the City has been approved for a second inspector who will be in charge of support services and specialty units in Kamloops.
Christian told NL News this new officer is expected to be in place by the end of this year.
