Kamloops RCMP are investigating after a man in his 30s was found dead near the train tracks on Victoria Street West last night.
In a statement, RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says police were called to the tracks between First Avenue and Overlander Bridge around 10:05 p.m. to reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a train.
She says Kamloops RCMP, the BC Coroner’s Service, and Canadian Pacific Railway Police are all investigating.
“Part of our investigation into any sudden death includes talking to people who may have information regarding the victim and his recent movements,” Evelyn said. “If anyone has dash camera or surveillance footage in the area of the railway tracks that night before police attended, please contact us as soon as possible.”
The City is currently in the process of installing a new fence further from the SunLife Financial building at 280 Victoria St. West to the Overlanders Bridge. A second phase of the project will see the fence extended from the Sun Life Building to First Avenue.
If you have any information about this man’s whereabouts before he was hit by the train, you’re asked to call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-35340.
