If you have any pesticides, cleaning chemicals or unknown stuff around your garage or basement that you’d like to get rid of, then now is the time to do it.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is holding it’s free annual Household Hazardous Waste Round-up event on Saturday.
TNRD Hazardous Waste Reduction coordinator Andrew Roebbelen says it’s a great opportunity to get rid of stuff you really don’t want sitting around anyway.
“A lot of it we will take year round but there are some items like unlabeled things, unknown things, mixtures of things, pool chemicals, lab chemicals those kind of things we don’t take year round, this is a great opportunity to brings those to this event.”
He says aside from hazardous materials, they’ll be taking other specialty items.
“If you’re coming for some old stuff that you may have dug up, feel free to bring along your used oil, your paint, you batteries, all of that will be excepted as well. We do accept those year round at many of our depots but if you’re coming you might as well bring that along as well.”
Roebbelen says the annual event always has a good turn out.
“We’ve been holding these events for many years now, we sometime change up what community it’s is but they’re well received and it’s a good chance to get rid of a lot of those unknown things. So, anything that would have a hazard symbol on it, that’s the kind of stuff we think of hazardous waste.”
It takes place next to the landfill on Mission Flats road on Saturday between 10 AM and 3 PM.
